Presenting Crocheted Blankets to a Charity
Once we have finished making several blankets (both knitted and crocheted), the time comes to donate these blankets to a charity.

Three organizations join forces to help the needy.
The Blankets for Canada Society is devoted to creating blankets for Canadians that need warmth. Established in 1998 in Lethbridge, the society now has chapters and groups across Canada, and has donated thousands of blankets, primarily to charitable organizations serving the homeless.
The YWCA Sheriff King Home is a 38-bed emergency shelter where abused women, with or without children, are given a safe place to begin rebuilding their lives. The Home provides shelter, food, individual and group counseling, follow-up services and referrals at no cost to clients. The immediate goal of the shelter is to move the family out of crisis into safety.
Michaels stores in Canada support Blankets for Canada in two ways. One is by acting as a drop-off point for knitters and crocheters to bring their 8” squares. The other is by providing time and space for staff, customers, and friends to join these squares together to convert them into blankets.
Recently, staff from the Michaels store in the Beacon Hill Shopping Center completed over 20 blankets, and donated them to the Sheriff King Home.
If you are interested in helping out, please knit or crochet 8” squares (leaving long tails to simplify joining) using a washable yarn, and drop them off at Michaels. You can also volunteer to help sew the squares into blankets.
And if you need assistance, call the YWCA Sheriff King Home 24-hour crisis line at 403-266-0707 to speak to a domestic violence crisis counselor.
